Out and About in Torrevieja
Torrevieja is situated off the N332 and is 40mins away from Alicante and Murcia San Javier airports and is in easy reach of the AP7 motorway.
Torrevieja is one of the most cosmopolitan towns on the Costa Blanca; it has a large multi-national community yet still holds true to Spanish tradition, with regular fiestas, art exhibitions and restaurants offering tapas evenings for holiday makers and locals alike.
The beaches in Torrevieja are of an excellent quality, Los Locos beach to the north of Torrevieja, and Del Acequion to the south. As well as a lido and small rock pools and coves along the promenade. For a fantastic day out visit Acropolis water park with its exciting and scary water slides, great for all the kids, ‘young and old’.
Torrevieja has a large weekly market where bargains are to be had and also a large seafront flea market that has leather goods, local pottery, merchandise and local art at reasonable prices. Or why not take home a unique portrait of yourself, painted by a street artist, or a caricature to amuse you and your friends.
For the person who enjoys shopping the Habaneras centre offers a large selection of designer boutiques’ selling clothes, shoes and leather goods at reasonable prices. Also the familiar shops such as C and A, ZARA and H&M, can be found here.
If you want to get out and about on day trips or excursions, there is a large bus terminus in the centre of town with buses leaving for all destinations including Alicante, the historic city of Cartagena, Benidorm and all places in between.
In the summer months Torrevieja has a large fun fair, in the marina area where all the familiar rides can be found. As well as bumping boats and moon shot catapults.
In the evening how about joining the locals in a steady stroll along the 3km of promenade, and along the 1km boardwalk bordering the marina. Sit and watch the locals fishing skills from the rocks running along the boardwalk before relaxing over your evening meal in the multitude of eateries along the front or explore the rambling back streets for some hidden local restaurant serving traditional Spanish fare.
For a slice of Spanish culture visit Torrevieja theatre where local groups regularly perform shows, productions and choral renditions.
More activities and adventures found nearby include horse riding, beach sports, Multi–plex cinema and ten pin bowling. Daily excursions from Torrevieja marina to Tabac Island. Visit the Torrevieja and Santa Pola salt lakes where flamingos are regular visitors. There is also a Zoo between Santa Pola and Elche, with a sea lion show and a small train with a guide to show you around the park. Don’t forget you’re bathing costumes as there is also a small water park there for you to relax after your tour.
